2006 Qualifying Exam

The 2006 Data Analysis Written Qualifying Exam begins at 8am September 21 and should be turned in by 8pm September 22. Feel free to use whatever computers and computing resourses you like to answer the questions.

YOU MUST NOT DISCUSS THE EXAM WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN A STATISTICS FACULTY MEMBER.

We are quite serious about this and will fail any student who collaborates or seeks outside help.

The exam itself consists of three parts; you are to answer all the questions in each part. Please pick up black notebooks from Sandy (or Jason in the main office) to record all of your handwritten work. Your final answers are to be typeset (Word, Latex) and printed separately. Please hand in both your final answer sheet as well as your back notebook by 8pm on Tuesday.

In terms of computer work, please perform your analysis in a clean directory (folder). Write all of your code, and perform all of your computations in this directory. At the end of the exam you will be instructed to upload a tarball of this directory; it will provide a digital version of the black notebook.

The exam is available in PDF format in the file qual.pdf.

Good luck!
